6 Best Magazines for Men

It was kind of a difficult task for us to limit the number of best magazines for men to just six.

We don’t know you or what you’re interested in, so we’re relying on good ole’ intuition to help guide us and we think that we’ve covered a broad range of topics that you’ll like.

From business and finance to health and having a little fun outdoors, check out our list below to see which one will give you some new and interesting lifestyle tips.

How to Choose Magazines for Men

Is there a trick to choosing a magazine? Sure. There are a lot of ways to help you narrow down the choices:

  • Related to Your Career Field? You could get something that’s closely related to your career field to help sharpen up your rough edges and get ahead in the game.

On the other hand, you may prefer to escape the daily grind by relaxing with a magazine that focuses on your favorite hobby or pastime.

  • Appropriate for You. If you’re a 50-something businessman looking for a financial/luxury travel magazine, then we doubt that you’ll be picking up a copy of Nylon for Guys anytime soon (it’s a magazine targeted for the 20-something hipsters, by the way).

Look for a magazine that is going to provide you with tips that are appropriate and useful to you. It could be an outdoor magazine with tips for hunting, fishing and plenty of ad space dedicated to outdoor gear, or you may find the latest bikini’s in Maxim to be of vital importance.

It’s pointless to pay for a magazine subscription if it doesn’t help you in some way, so find something that is up your alley.

Photos vs Text

Some magazines are so packed full of ads that it’s hard to even find a story. This could be a good or a bad thing, depending on what you expect when you read.

  • Photos. Let’s face it, magazines need to sell ad space and they need to fill up the pages. If you like seeing the ads (hair trends, fashion trends, latest in technology, etc.) then a photo-heavy magazine is going to be right up your alley.

Just make sure that they also provide you with quality advice or interesting content when they do decide to put the text in.

  • Text. Can’t stand all of the cologne ads and Viagra suggestions? Then make sure the magazine has more text than it does imagery.

Business magazines usually focus more on text. Fashion magazines rely on the imagery to sway you.

If any of you are offended by a high amount of sexual content or you just don’t find it relevant to your lifestyle, then make sure you take this into consideration as you search for a magazine.

Men’s Health (which didn’t make our cut) and Maxim definitely include this type of content, so you can either avoid it or head straight for it, depending on what you want to read.

Top 3 Best Magazines for Men Reviews

Here are the three that made the cut for the best magazine for men:

1. Inc.

Inc.

We wanted to include a business magazine and decided that Inc. fit the bill. It has a very specific audience in mind – CEOs and small/mid-sized companies – dedicating their pages to helping you get ahead in the business world.

We like their real-life examples of other successful businesspeople (along with the failures), which helps put things into perspective. Great for those of you who are still working to build a successful business.

A subscription will provide 10 issues in a year.

2. Backpacker

Backpacker

Heading over to the opposite side of the spectrum we have Backpacker. Hiking. The great outdoors, nature…If you’re interested in any of this, then have a look at Backpacker magazine.

Find out about the latest and greatest gear, where to go hiking and camping, read exciting and inspiring stories from other outdoor enthusiasts and lose yourself in the stunning photography they include. It’s great for backpackers of all levels: those just starting out and those who are kings of the mountains.

A subscription will provide 9 issues in a year.

3. Men’s Journal

Men’s Journal

This is a classic choice, so it had to be on our list.

It contains a mixture of subjects, which is probably why it is so popular to a wide variety of men. The main focus is on style, so you’ll see the latest trends in men’s fashion, accessories and everything in between.

To break up the one-track focus, they also include articles and info about technology, travel, work, health and fitness.

If you aren’t in need of a niche-specific magazine, then this is an excellent choice that is dedicated 100% to men.

A subscription will provide 12 issues in a year.
